It may have been 15 years since Twilight first came out, but the film is having a revival and one character in particular is giving us hair goals. “Alice Cullen hair” currently has over 14 million views on TikTok.

The aesthetic has been building steadily over the past few years with grungy and alt inspo going mainstream (along with Wednesday Addams), but recently it's been helped along by one tiny influencer whose uptake of the trend has gone viral.

A mum, named Kayla, took to TikTok to share her 8-year-old daughter's obession with the Alice haircut. “Trying to tell my 8yo not to get the Alice haircut” the text says in the video. “She cant be convinced, its her canon event,” Kayla wrote in the caption. The video shows her daughter taking her elbow-length hair to the salon and sitting calmly in the chair while the length is lopped off, before twirling at the end to show her new flicky stacked layers. And the video's picked up almost 3 million likes with users admiring the brave chop.

It's got a lot of people in the captions wondering whether they should also recommit. And while a fair few are stung by previous attempts (“I looked like a mushroom” one user said, “my curly hair could never” another user said and “it needs so much styling!” said another), there's still a whole fan base that looks primed to go again. In fact, the Alice plays into a lot of the hybrid cuts that are already currently trending, including the Bixie (bob-pixie cut) and the Mixie (mullet-pixie cut), so maybe Mini Alice is onto something…

What is Alice Cullen hair?

“Alice Cullen Twilight hair is a hybrid haircut, I’d call it haircut a Shixie (a cross between the texture of the shag and a grown out pixie). It also crossed over into a Bixie too, (the hybrid of a bob and a pixie) and it has a razored fringe with a nod to the 70s,” says Neil Moodie, Pureology UKI Ambassador. Plus it changes throughout the saga, starting longer and flickier, then becoming shorter and spikier.

Why get Alice Cullen hair?

“It's perfect if you’re growing out the pixie, or if you have a shag or a wolf cut and want to go shorter, but still want to have some length for playfulness in the haircut, as it keeps more length throughout the back,” says Neil. “What’s lovely about the haircut is the structure. I love the femininity of it,” says pro hairstylist and founder of Arkive haircare, Adam Reed. “I would recommend bringing reference photos to your hairdresser as it’ll really define what you get. It’s a sort of a grown-out pixie cut,” he says.

Can Alice Cullen hair work on different hair types?

“Speak to your hairdresser about whether this would work on your hair type,” says Adam. “Although it doesn’t look massively styled, on curlier hair it would spring up and really enhance the curl,” says Adam. “The haircut will work perfectly if you have wavy or longer curly hair," says Neil, “but more styling would be needed for straighter hair types to achieve the look,” he adds. And coily hair would require some smoothing to get the shape. “Again, it’s bringing an image to your hairdresser to explain through the visual of what you want,” says Adam.

How to style Alice Cullen hair?

“Either let it dry, or if your hair is curlier and more defined, then use a large brush, medium temperature on a dryer and blow it out,” says Adam who recommends Arkive's The Prologue Hair Primer to prep hair for styling. "I’d recommend using Pureology Lightweight Volume Mousse to create some volume. Power dry your hair and then create flicks and movement with a straightening iron. For curly hair types, I’d suggest using Color Fanatic Spray with a light curl cream," adds Neil.
