We spotted them on the boldest street-style stars last year, and it’s clear that they're making even more of a comeback for SS23; women's cowboy boots are the official-unofficial footwear of choice for everyone from festival goers to people seeing Harry Styles and Beyoncé. The good news? There’s not a single designer or high street brand that hasn't hopped on the movement, meaning if you've not already treated yourself to a pair of Western boots you're about to.

Echoing the traditional tooled leather details of authentic cowboy boots, this season’s take on the silhouette sees stacked Cuban heels (which slant slightly) and elongated pointed toes as key details. From there, its a free-for-all. Traditional black, tan, chocolate and sandy shades are all valid colours if you’re looking to add a pair of women’s cowboy boots to your everyday rotations, but we’ve spotted gold, turquoise, fuschia and – most notably – silver versions that have us hyped for the season ahead.

If you're musing over how to wear cowboy boots outside of the Love on Tour and Renaissance arenas – and, we admit, they are a little trickier to wear than trainers (if only for their lack of ubiquity) – an important point to note is that, while the best cowboy boots don't come with a rule book, the success of your overall look relies solely on what you choose to wear them with.

Where previously we were taught to leave everything else remotely Western-related at the ranch (so to speak), and to avoid pairing them with gingham prints, cowboy hats and denim fabrics, we now have free rein entirely. That said, if you're not attending a music event but still want to dip your toe in Western waters, you may prefer to offset their toughness with an on-trend summer dress or maxi skirt.

You'll find us fully leaning into the ‘yee-haw’ connotations of cowboy boots, though, with everything from tassel-trimmed leather jackets to oversized buckle belts to match their vibe. This isn't our first rodeo.
