We sat down with Kurt Geiger Creative Director Rebecca Farrar-Hockley to talk fabulous footwear, brand building and the key to career success. If anyone has an inspiring fashion story, it's Rebecca.

Tell us more about the story behind the signature Britton stiletto and why you created the fashion film to accompany the collection

When we created 'Britton' we had London's city streets in mind as, unlike a less practical covered leather heel which is easily damaged, 'Britton' and the B Series of signature stilettos are crafted in Italy with a metal pin-heel. From our design studio in London to our factory in Florence, the film celebrates our signature stiletto that can handle the real life of a fashionista. And I know because that's actually me walking around London in them!

Where do you get your inspiration from to create shoe and accessories collections season after season?

A lot of what we design is born out of my desire to create pieces that my design team and I want to wear ourselves. I also love sitting outside, even in the middle of our British winters, so London and the world and women around us are my biggest design influences.

How do you feel when you see people on the street (and celebrities) wearing your designs?

On the street and red carpet alike, celebrities including Jennifer Lawrence, Beyonce and Sandra Bullock have coveted the Kurt Geiger London signature stiletto and I will get just as excited when I see a cool girl in London wearing our designs. That's when I feel proud.

What is it about Kurt Geiger and its offering that you think really appeals to women?

Being female definitely makes my creative direction intrinsically different to Kurt's back in the Sixties. Every shoe we make is designed in our London design studio with fashion authority, attention to detail and high quality.

You've been at Kurt Geiger since 2002, what was it about the brand that made you want to make the switch from your previous role and what keeps you motivated 12 years on?

Kurt Geiger first opened on Bond Street, London in 1963 so it has wonderful heritage. Since joining I've grown the design team to see distinct product creation for each label. From Kurt Geiger London's Italian craftsmanship marrying cutting edge materials to KG Kurt Geiger's London-cool, Miss KG's fashion essentials at accessible price points and Carvela's unique signature of sophisticated footwear and every day must-haves, the brand has a style to suit every woman and that's what keeps me motivated everyday.

How many pairs of shoes do you own personally?

I can't believe I am telling you this, but I'm afraid it's true! 500 pairs. Either a terrible or fabulous amount - depending on your perspective, but I love shoes and I have been collecting them for a long time.

For people just starting out in the industry who are thinking about a career in fashion and retail, what advice would you give them?

Be eager to work hard and never turn down an opportunity.

Flats have been seen on stars like Victoria Beckham this season, do you think this is will be a big trend this summer (and what other shoe/accessories styles do you think we'll be seeing)?

This summer's trends are designed to suit our daily uniform so flats are big this season and lots of the coolest flats are elevated with embellishment and materials. If you're looking for a new style then try a bucket bag or a backpack and where clothes are taking a more relaxed approach, accessories and bold coloured totes are your attention grabbers.

Describe a day in your working life?

Just watch the film! Ha, I wish…

And as if by magic, here's the film in all its beautiful glory >>
