Liberty University football player Tajh Boyd died by suicide, a medical examiner has ruled.
Boyd, a 19-year-old freshman offensive lineman from Chesapeake, Virginia, died last week.
And as first reported by CBS 6 News and 10 WAVY, the Western District Medical Examiner Office determined that Boyd took his own life.
The medical examiner has since confirmed to DailyMail.com that Boyd died by a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Liberty coach Jamey Chadwell did not specifically say that Boyd had died by suicide, but confirmed that his death was not football-related.

A spokesperson for the Lynchburg police said this week that police had looked into the death and determined a criminal investigation was not necessary.
'It's been a challenging time not only for our staff, our players and just our whole community trying to comprehend all the different things have been going on,' Chadwell said at a press conference.
'He made a huge impact on the team. He was very quiet as far as an outwardly quietness, but when he was one-on-one with his teammates, he lit up the room. He had a very giving heart and if there was something that anybody was going through on the team, he was always there.'
Conference USA, in which Liberty football plays, also released a statement following Boyd's death: 'We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Liberty Football student-athlete Tajh Boyd,' it read. 'Our thoughts are with the Boyd family and Flames nation during this difficult time.'
Boyd was a freshman offensive lineman who had yet to play a game for Liberty University
Boyd was heavily recruited out of Oscar F. Smith High School in Chesapeake, Virginia, where he won a pair of state titles.
The offensive lineman also received scholarship offers from Bowling Green, Buffalo, Campbell, Duke, Jackson State, James Madison, Maine, Maryland, Morgan State, Norfolk State, North Carolina A&T and Virginia Tech, according to his Liberty bio page.
Funeral arrangements have not been made yet, and Chadwell said when they are, the coaching staff will rearrange the team's schedule to be a part of it.
'Obviously we're trying to get a team ready, but also we're trying to make sure that we're understanding the different feelings that different groups might have and how to navigate that,' Caldwell said.
The Flames are scheduled to open the season at home against Bowling Green on Sept. 2.
