Camilla Thurlow and Jamie Jewitt won over the nation on Love Island 2017 and now, the couple are hoping to win over our beauty bags with their new launch.

Here at GLAMOUR HQ, we're passionate about beauty, sustainability, the environment and charitable causes and Love Jamila ticks all of those boxes - and then some.

The couple say their 100% natural beauty brand champions kindness to ourselves, to each other and to the planet.

The packaging is 100% recyclable and they encourage customers to find a clever way to reuse the packaging and to make sure materials are separated when recycled.

Plus, with philanthropy at its core (something Camilla and Jamie championed after leaving the villa), ten percent of the natural beauty brand’s turnover will also give back, working with Help Refugees, to support refugees across Europe and the Middle East.

"Love Jamila was born very organically," they tell me. "We both have a huge passion for climate change and the environment, which will always be at the core of our business. We wanted to spread the eco friendly message by creating eco-friendly products that make you feel good.

"We had the added discovery that ‘jamila’, a combination of both of our names, actually means ‘beauty’ in Arabic, in a deeper sense, beauty inside and out. We like to think Love Jamila, as a company, lives up to this name."

Unless you've been living under a rock, you'll be well aware of the impact that climate change is having on our planet. Bearing this in mind, the duo aimed to create a super conscious beauty brand that will help - rather than hinder - our planet.

The couple were left 'frustrated' by the responsibility to take action being deflected onto the consumer to make better choices. "Whilst we see it as very important for the consumer to be mindful, we believe the bulk of the responsibility should be on the large companies to no longer make plastic so readily available as cheap plastic = larger profit margins.

"We are leading by putting every effort into avoiding plastic at all costs as a company, and as our product list grows, we will find new and innovative ways to package, avoiding the need for plastic whilst reducing waste materials altogether. If we can do it as a start-up with limited resources, we know the big guys can and should be, too."

As well as focusing on conscious packaging, the pair have researched into key ingredients, such as avocado, which they've packed into the eye cream, as it’s gentle enough to moisturise such a delicate area "and obviously we couldn’t avoid the nod to Jamie’s avocado birthday breakfast for Cam," they joked.

"We absolutely love the inclusion of peppermint oil in the sugar lip scrub too, it took us a long time to get it just right but now that we have, it’s good enough to eat," they added.

They've also used peach kernel oil in 'CamJam' - a multitasking balm for skin, hair and nails. "It is a lovely light oil, so it doesn’t feel heavy on the skin. It leaves a delicate sheen on lips, as well as being lovely and moisturising for anywhere you need it," they promise.

One of the main inspirations behind the range is the beauty lessons that Camilla learnt from her stint on Love Island.

"My time in the villa taught me to keep it simple. I don’t want to miss an hour of sleep to do a complex skin routine. Also, I try to stick with the products that work for me.

"To be honest, what’s been crucial to learn is that when you feel better, you look better. That’s why the term ‘inside-out beauty’ is so true.

"I hate that feeling when you look at your face, and you can see the weariness and unhappiness written all over it – no eye cream can help with that. That’s why it’s so important to us that people can feel good about looking after themselves."

We couldn't have put it better ourselves, Cam.

Love Jamila is supporting Help Refugees, who work with local organisations on Samos, Greece - one of the islands which has seen an incredibly high number of arrivals in recent years of people from war-torn and conflict-ridden countries. Your donation will be used to support the We Are One team who run services for women from their "safe space" (the only one of its kind on the island). They offer yoga, dance and breathing classes, creative workshops and mother and baby sessions as well as a living room area to which women can go to escape the specific difficulties that come with being a woman in their uncomfortable, often hostile camp surroundings. Safe spaces and services such as these are so essential in helping these women to relax, restore and rediscover themselves after months - and sometimes years - spent in dangerous and unwelcoming environments. The space also offers computer and English classes, allowing women and girls to develop skills which they can then take with them when they finally have the legal permission to leave Samos and start new lives elsewhere. The development of such skills can also be invaluable in the encouragement of personal growth, allowing women to reclaim their dignity and confidence. Follow them at @lovejamilauk
