Many of us have remedies that we swear by. Maybe it's a nappy rash cream that also shrivels spots, a hair conditioner that leaves your calves super nourished after shaving, or perhaps saliva on a cotton bud is your trick for getting blood off clothes (all tried, tested and approved. You're welcome).

Well, guess what? Celebrities have secrets too. Although, is that really fair? We mean, there they are, being all kinds of glamorous as they augment our screens and Instagram feeds, and then they sneak off to do things in private? Without letting us know about it?

Not on our watch! Which is why we've discovered their biggest beauty secret to date...

Vaseline.

Yep. That's right. The little tub of petroleum jelly which has been gathering dust in your cupboard since 2003 is loved and used daily by some of the biggest names in the business, and not just to soothe their chapped lips.

Beyoncé swears by the stuff to nourish her superstar lashes, while Jennifer Lopez's age-defying trick might be the result of using Vaseline as a cleansing balm. The humble balm can also be used as a cuticle softener, eyebrow tamer, body highlighter, as an adhesive for glitter, or even to add shine to the ends of hair.

So, lift your jaw off the floor, dust off that old tub (maybe even invest in a new one, if you're feeling fancy), and consider this - does the £2 beauty product deserve the prime spot in your next shelfie? We say yes.

Unaware of the powers this little tub of magic possesses? Here are just some of the unexpected ways you can use Vaseline...

1. To apply glitter at a festival

If you're heading to a music festival this summer and want to go full-Kesha with the glitter, pack some Vaseline to use as an adhesive.

"Vaseline is great for sticking glitter down and is completely safe for the face (and even leaves skin feeling quite smooth underneath)," says Katrina, co-founder of The Gypsy Shrine.

But how does it fare in a sweaty moshpit? "If you spray it down with fixing spray over the top, we've had people come to The Gypsy Shrine tent the next day with their glitter still on that's lasted through the day and the night. I'd say it lasts all day - but it's always great to keep a little supply in your bag so you can top up if you dance the night away."

2. Glossy eyes

One of the biggest trends of the year, glossy eyelids can be worn bare or using colour. Either way, Vaseline comes in handy. Apply it solo for some wet-look shine, or pat gently over your favourite eyeshadow colour to reinvent the finish.

3. Nail polish guard

Do things get a little messy when you try a DIY mani? Apply some Vaseline around your cuticles and any polish that ends up outside the nail will be easily wiped away.

4. Hair dye-barrier

Similarly, when doing a DIY hair dye job, apply an outline of jelly around your hairline. This will stop the dye from staining your skin.

5. DIY lip tint

Instead of mourning over your favourite lipstick shade as it comes to an end, keep it going for longer by mixing the last little bits with Vaseline. The colour won't be as powerful, but you'll gain yourself a brand new lip tint.

6. Marathon must-have

If you're planning on running a marathon soon, firstly, you're amazing and we are in awe of you. Secondly, get ready for some friction. Perhaps one more for the men than the ladies, applying Vaseline to your nipples will help to guard them against serious chafe.

7. Emergency highlighter

If you really can't go without glow and your highlighter is nowhere to be found, a dab of Vaseline here and there will give you enough dewy sheen to get you through.

8. Lash glue remover

If you're struggling to remove your faux fluttery lashes, apply some Vaseline along the strip line to help loosen the glue and make for gentler peel-off.

9. To set your brows

Brushed up brows still make us swoon, but if you don't like a hard-set eyebrow gel, Vaseline is a great alternative. Apply a little across each brow and then use a spoolie to brush them up.
